Forum Signatures: Markdown, Formatting, and How to Set Yours Up

You can set a personal forum signature that appears automatically below every post you make in the public forums. Signatures support Markdown and basic HTML, so you can add some personality to your posts.

The Signature Page

Open the user dropdown menu (click your username in the top right) and select Forum Signature. This takes you to a single page where you can write your signature and generate ASCII art, all in one place.

The page has two sections:

  1. Signature editor — write and preview your signature
  2. ASCII Art Generator — create text art to paste into your signature

Writing Your Signature

Type your signature in the editor. You can use:

  • Bold and italic text
  • Code blocks for monospace text
  • Links to your projects or other sites
  • Horizontal rules with ---

A live preview appears below the editor so you can see exactly how it will look.

ASCII Art Generator

Click the ASCII Art Generator tab to create text-based art from any word or phrase. Choose from multiple fonts and styles, preview the result, and click Copy to Signature to paste it directly into your signature editor.

Signature Rules

  • Maximum length: 500 characters
  • Signatures appear below a thin divider line after each of your posts
  • Toggle signatures on/off from your Settings page with the Show Signature checkbox
  • Keep it tasteful — signatures that break formatting or are excessively long may be edited by moderators

Tips

  • Use an ASCII art banner as your signature for maximum retro cred
  • Include a link to your project or personal site
  • Keep it short — the best signatures are memorable, not long
