Working with Other Moderators
Stay Aligned
Check the Mod Log regularly to see what other mods are doing. If you disagree with a co-moderator is action, discuss it privately — never countermand another mod publicly. That undermines everyone is authority.
Hand Off When Needed
If you are too close to a situation, ask another mod to handle it. This is not weakness — it is professionalism.
Communicate
If you take a significant action (forum ban, thread lock, escalation), drop a note in the mod log or DM your co-moderators so they are aware. Surprises create confusion.
Super Moderators
If you are a forum moderator and your category has a super moderator, they are your point of escalation before going to admins. Super mods can:
- Help with cross-forum issues in the category
- Remove or reassign forum moderators
- Make category-level decisions
Escalation Chain
Forum Moderator → Super Moderator → Admin → Super Admin
Use this chain. Skip levels only for emergencies (threats, illegal content).
Mod Burnout
Moderation is unpaid work and it can wear you down. If you need a break, say so. Step back for a week. The community will survive. Better to take a break than to burn out and start making bad calls.
